A-Z Make-up Tips

Hey lovelies,

I think it’s time that I start shaping my blog a little bit more and doing some different things, so it’s pretty straight forward and obvious what I’ll be writing about from the title. So sit back, have a read and enjoy.
Before I start, there are obviously a lot of other ways to do your make up, these are just some tips I feel are important ❤️

Let’s get to it!

Application – When applying make-up, don’t apply too much, one layer at a time and try to get good lighting so that you can seen what you’re doing properly and how much make-up you’re actually applying. Apply lightly and gradually build it up to the look you like.  (it’s the worst things when you’ve been doing your make up in your bedroom, you go to the bathroom and your face is darker than the rest of your body.)

Blush – Blusher not only adds colour but also defines your cheekbones. So apply properly by firstly determining what shape face you have to accentuate your best features.

Contouring – This is very in at the moment, more people contour on a daily basis. This is giving shape to an area of your face and enhancing your facial structure, using foundations and powders such as bronzers, highlighters and blushers.

Defining – To make sure your make-up looks ‘picture perfect’ you should blend well to ensure there are no lines visible and it all combines together well. Use the correct brushes and correct shades.

Experiment – Using different shades and colours to create different looks for daytime, evening time and night-time, depending where you’re going and what you’re doing. Especially try experimenting with different colours for your eyes and lips to make them POP and make you STAND OUT OF THE CROWD!

Foundation – For different types of coverage there are many ways to apply your foundation. For a sheer, natural look use your fingers or only the ends of a blush lightly. For a medium to full coverage look use a foundation brush.

Groom – Maintain your eyebrows whether that means threading, plucking, waxing or HD Brows treatments. EYEBROWS ARE IMPORTANT.

Highlight – Highlight Highlight Highlight! It is very very easy to go overboard with you highlighter, if you apply too much it will start looking grey and do the opposite to what a highlighter is meant to do! So apply small amounts at a time using a fan brush to grab even spread, alternatively you could use your fingers.

Invest – Be sure to invest in complexion products. The face is the first thing people see so you need to keep it looking fleeky. Bare Minerals are a good example of a company that are very into products that are great for your skin. (The are other brands, do some research before buying products and compare products too).

Jewellery – If you don’t have any facial piercings, you can buy fake face jewellery to complement your face and to stand out a little more. Also necklaces, head pieces, earrings will also make a huge difference.

Kylie Jenner – This young woman is one of the biggest influence for make-up and fashion today, she is definitely a trendsetter. She has soared to the top of the make-up industry with her famous Lipkits, follow Kylie on any social media site (if you don’t already) to get the latest make-up looks, fashion updates,  launches of her Lipkits and Kylies her sister Kendall’s clothes range at TopShop and Pacsun.

Lips – Lipliners, Lipsticks, Lipgloss, Lipbalms. Lips are very important. Lips are my favourite party to do when doing my make-up, so many colours, so many different techniques and it just completes the whole look! Keep your lips hydrates by using lip scrubs (homemade or shop bought) and use Lipbalms when either not wearing anything on your lips or when you want a natural look. To make your lips look bigger, you can use two different shades of use concealer in the middle of your lips and blend well.

Match – It is very important to have foundations and powders that match to your skin tone! Everyone dreads owning a foundation that makes you either look like a ghost or a umpaloompa. To find your true colour foundation, also swatch it on your neck instead of your face, hand or wrist as it doesn’t get as much sunlight so that is your natural skin colour. Mosturise, I feel it is very important to mosturise before applying makeup-up and after you have taken your make-up off at night.

Neck – Don’t forget when you’re applying your make-up to do your neck as well, you done want your face a different colour to the rest of your body, especially your neck. Blend it in a quarter of the way down from the top of your neck underneath your chin.

Old – Believe it or not make-up does go out of date, be sure to check the label when you buy any product and renew your products when needed because old make-up can cause you to get breakouts and also cause bad reactions on your skin.

Powders – there are many different types of powders! It just depends what powder is best for you and your skin type. Loose Powder is more for a lightweight coverage. Pressed Powder is for a more cakey look or to touch up throughout the day so you can keep your look through the day. Setting Powder goes on after your foundation this will get rid of any shine and of course ‘set’ your foundation to make sure it lasts longer, Tod can be tinted or translucent and finally.. Finishing Powder is used after setting powder to give that ‘extra-perfect’ look. This powered would be used if you are going to be in front of cameras and a lot of flashes! Make sure you blend all powders in properly.

Questions – Be confident to always ask questions!  If you are unsure about anything to do with make-up there aren’t really any right or wrong ways but you can use YouTube, Instagram or Google (and more) to find or what different techniques other people use and chose the one that works well for you.

Real – do you wear a colour of foundation that’s matches your skin tone? Is it lighter, darker or a real match? For example it is quite important for you to look after your skin so you should make sure you have an SPF in your foundation to stop your skin getting exposure from the sun, if you do that you’ll maybe have to wear a foundation that is darker than your skin as your skin hasn’t had as much exposure as the rest of your body. You’ll stay looking younger forever! 🙂

Setting – if you’re worried about your make-up staying on for a long period of time there are products that you can use such as setting sprays and powders.

Time – Take your time doing your make-up the longer you spend the better the make-up. So if you are going out on the town leave yourself a little bit more time then you would normally.

Under Eyes Dark Circles – Some people struggle with covering dark circles under their eyes due to tiredness or stress. Different skin tones may use slightly different coloured concealers to cover dark circles. Click on the instyleuk link to see what colour would be best for you!

Volume – if you like to have full lashes you can either use fake eyelashes and add a little bit of mascara, or you can find a full volume mascara such as ‘Rimmel Wonder’full Wake Me Up Mascara‘ at £7.99 from Boots, UK. Alternatively if you don’t enjoy applying fake eyelashes of you are a messy mascara applied like me then go for eyelash extensions but with these you will have to make sure you keep up with the fortnightly in full appointment to keep them looking full.

Waterline – To make your eyes appear bigger apply some eyeliner to your waterline and also add some highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes to make them seem brighter.

Xen-Tan – Always keep your skin glowing with either fake tan, the occasional sunbed or the best option a holiday! You always feel that bit more confident when you have a slight tan. Xen-tan is just one of many instant tan products, with its sweet smell, flawless results and not leaving you with that ‘orange look’ you can’t go wrong!

You – As much as people follow other people of social media sites for ideas, be yourself, love yourself. It’s great to take ideas and get inspiration from professionals but make it your own, put your own spin on it, only you know how your skin and body works! Be happy and don’t let anyone else’s opinions bother you.

Zzzz! – You have to get your ‘beauty sleep’ every night! This will obviously reduce tiredness which will reduce dark circles and breakouts, which means wearing less make- up. It will also give your face a break from make-up allowing it to get some air and you’ll feel refreshed.

I hope these tips have helped in some way, shape or forms.

If there is anything you would add let me know, it would be great to see if any of you have other ideas or tips!
Lots of love!

GNx
